Well, I got my start with computers "kinda late" - it was a Fortran class
on Unix in 1987.
Really became involved a couple years later when, as a graduate student,
I started writing motion analysis software in C and providing ad-hoc support
in the labs. Back then, I used a mainframe for all my email (BITNET) and the
web consisted of Gopher.
After teaching in the Exercise Science field for a few years, I took a "working
vacation" as a Scuba Instructor in the Florida Keys. $500 a month (plus room
and board) only went so far (but it sure was fun while it lasted!), so after a
while it was time to return to computing.
These days I work with integration and development, with strengths in the *nix
operating systems, IPv* protocols, network services and web technologies.
Although my favorite OS for years was Linux, the sheer power of Solaris
combined with new licensing (to include Sun Studio) make it *by far* the #1
choice for me!
