The purpose of this software package is to deliver a simple way to install the
qmail SMTP server.
|
|
|
Installing a complete qmail system for the first time could be a real chore.
Because copyright limits redistribution to source tarballs or a inflexible
and possibly antiquated binary (var-qmail), one is typically forced to download
several sources, apply patches, then build and install the software.
Finally, you then get to integrate all the pieces and find those lesser
documented topics that you weren't aware of because you're not yet familiar
with qmail.

|
That's where EZQmail (ezq) comes in. The ezq distribution is meant to be a
EZ method for small businesses, hobbyists, or others wishing to try the qmail
system for mail delivery. Because of its charter, ezq does not provide all the
functionality that a Yahoo or Google would require, but instead provides an EZ
to install, modern (patched) and functional (integrated) qmail system onto
which additional functionalities can be added (examples include anti-Virus or
anti-SPAM engines, LDAP or SQL for access and authentication, or SMTP AUTH and
TLS for encrypted mail delivery).
|
|
|
The ezq software is distributed as a source tarball that contains a couple
shell scripts, some patches, some files to assist in integration, and also
some spec files for packaging. It is a rather complex process, so an overview
is provided in the Release Notes for clarity.
